Fulfilling the High Calling of Jesus

Fulfilling the High Calling of Jesus

Written by Linda

How does one go about choosing a couple for perhaps the most important positions in their ministry? Pastor Bill and I were in prayer, while at the same time keeping our eyes open for the right people to fill the role of House Managers at Hope Children’s Home. The importance of this position was impressed on our hearts. The people chosen must love God with all their hearts. Their love for children must supersede their desire to please themselves, to the extent of giving up sleep if needed to rush a child to the hospital in the middle of the night, . . . Someone was needed who would train as they worked side by side with the children, but who was never too busy to tease and play with them. These people must not be harsh, but gentle enough to Shepard the little lambs like Jesus did, and never to allow frustration to become abusive or angry. The position would not always be easy, but the fruit would be eternal and abundant! Did the Lord have people like this who would work with us and fill this important position to love and nurture 40 children? We knew the answer was YES and prayed that we would be guided on how to find them!

Prepare the Way Ministry’s Child Monitoring Team (nurse, teacher, pastor, counselor, and myself) set out to meet the Charles Tiondi family. They were caring for two orphans from the northern part of Uganda. Although we have known Pastor Charles for a couple of years; we wanted to see their character, their home, and discover who they were. Once we arrived and after introducing us to the children, they asked if they could sing for us. The family closed their eyes, and began to worship Jesus. His holy and sweet presence entered the room in which He was being so honored. Love God with all their hearts-check.

They  wanted us to go and pray for their landlord who was dying of AIDS. I boldly entered the room, and knelt down besides the woman who was lying on a mat on the floor. We gathered and began to pray. At the time, we were not told that the woman had not allowed anyone to pray for her in over a year. Her eyes which had been fixed and staring into space became soft and tender. They started to follow us. We saw hope being restored into her face. Eventually she was able to sit up for a minute.

Pastor Charles and Jesica were down on the floor busy telling about each child in the room. They knew the details of the live of each child in the room. The Tiondi family had been sacrificing their own needs in order to purchase food for the landlord, her eight children, and the mother who was also the caregiver. Love others greater than themselves-check. Both Pastor Charles and Jesica had one of the landlord’s children in their laps. I had God’s peace and joy in my hearts that this could be His choice for us. We went shopping with Pastor Charles to purchase more food for the landlord’s family. He was overjoyed that she was being blessed.

During his childhood years, Pastor Charles had been a refugee, fleeing from Uganda to Sudan, and back to Uganda depending where the war was taking place. He learned to be content with much or in lack. More than that, his reliance upon the Lord deepened and he learned to trust God for his very life. His heart is full of love and appreciation for every blessing he receives.

We invited the Tiondi family; Pastor Charles, Jesica, Janet, Denis, Gideon, Sharon, Gueis, Faith, and their unborn baby, Hope Linda, to move into Hope Children’s Home and become the temporary managers. They said YES to the high call of Jesus; true religion is serving the orphans. They said YES to representing Jesus to the children. We are so grateful for the YES in their hearts to the Lord. They brought so many great changes, and have been a continual blessing to everyone who meets them.

We have added a matron, Harriet to the Hope Children’s Home staff. Harriet lives with the girls, is the cook, and also works in the garden. She also has a wonderful heart, is fully trustworthy, and loves to work hard. She enjoys dancing and teaching the boys and the girls to cook and garden. We are so thankful for her.

Please keep the team in prayer, as there are always challenges. God turns the challenges into victories, and He receives the glory.

Thank you for faithfully praying for us while we were in Uganda. I (Linda) have been back in the US for a week. Pastor Bill will remain overseas until mid-December. Thank you for allowing us to represent you to the beautiful people of Uganda. Thank you for lifting us before the throne of God. We are so completely sure that your prayers are why we are seeing such an abundance of fruit and favor. At this time, we plan to return in February 2014.
