Foreign to Familiar

19 Dec. 2012 Posted by Pastor Bill in
A must read book for anyone involved in missions overseas.

  1. People are going overseas now more than any other time in history. Getting there is easy, but knowing how to connect culturally correct in friendship is not as easy. Even when people come home glowing about the great response they had among... the people of some other land, they rarely know the other side of the story; the confusion they must have left in their wake. Relatively few people who try to work with those of other cultures understand that the way they live out their values and customs is probably completely foreign to those they are relating to. They can expect the values and customs of others to be completely foreign to them as well. ~Sarah A. Lanier-author
I personally wish that I had read this book before my first trip to Uganda. It would have helped me understand my dear Ugandan friends better and I would have been more successful at communicating. There are basically two types of cultures in the world. Hot Climate Cultures and Cold Climate Cultures! I highly recommend this book to anyone who plans to travel overseas.

    1. An absolute must read before traveling overseas. This book will help you understand some basic differences in cultures of the world! ~ Linda
