A Church is Born

Dislocated Hip Healed during Church’s First Service

Deep in a village in the Pabbo area, a hunger is stirring in the hearts of the people to have the Word of God preached to them on a weekly basis. The things that we take for granted are treasured desires to others. It is a joy to minister to such hungry people.

The leader of this clan is the Minister of Health for the entire Gulu district. He is a Christian desiring a church for his people so they can know the living God. There are nearly 1,000 people living in small clans throughout the village. Pastor Bill and Pastor Bosco have been discussing how to plant a church in this village.

Due to the remote location of the village, the best means of travel is by motorcycle. We now have four motorcycles in Pabbo and rented two others for the journey. An evangelism team of five from the US, Pastor Bosco, boda drivers, and I set off for our 90 minute journey through the beautiful terrain of Northern Uganda. Our destination was the other side of a distant mountain. The roads were somewhat traitorous, but the skilled drivers averted all the dangers while the riders enjoyed the picturesque scenery.

Upon our arrival to the village, we found the family eagerly waiting. The team testified and prayed with the members. Several of the clan gave their lives to Jesus. We held the first worship service in the community. They do not have a church anywhere within walking distance, but they long for one. Please pray with us for a full time pastor for these beautiful people. In the meantime, we will commute as often as possible.

The elderly matriarch was sitting on a mat on the ground with crutches lying beside her. She stated she had a dislocated right hip and it was very difficult to walk on it due to the extreme pain in her hip and leg. She struggled to get around with crutches. We laid our hands on her and prayed for healing. She said the pain had decreased. We supported her as we walked with her using her crutch, but she continued to favor her right leg. We sat her back down as the service continued. I sat down on the mat and snuggled close to her with my hand on her hip and my heart lifting her before the Lord. I felt God saying to have her walk again. We helped her up and asked her to walk with us again. At first she was reluctant to give up her crutches. With convincing, she released one of them but held tightly to the other as she limped her way around the compound. I asked her to let me have her other crutch. Her faith arouse as she handed it over. With a person on each side, we walked around the entire compound until she realized that she no longer needed either crutch. Her face erupted into a great big smile as she realized that Jesus had healed her dislocated hip!

Is it any wonder that we cherish doing the Kingdom work for our Savior?

All for Jesus,
Pastor Bill and Linda
